For our final social studies project we had a 2nd grade market to learn about economics. Each 2nd grade class had a market. We were producers when we decided on a good or service to sell. We were consumers when we went shopping. Some of the goods that we made were paper airplanes, foil faces, funny face cards, bracelets, origami, balloon faces and squirt bottles with sponges. Our services included doing magic tricks and cleaning desks. We earned money with our behavior points. There were many lessons to be learned about economics while having a lot of fun.

We just finished our second to last project of the year, our cultural heritage parade. We worked so hard to research about inventors. At first, we went through many inventors. Then we chose an inventor to research. We learned about what they invented. We wrote reports, typed them and hung them on a timeline in the hallway.
We went to a puppet show at Hilltop School. It was the Madcap Puppets performing Long Lost Stories. The story was about how a girl who lost her brother in a magic chest and this monster wanted her to tell a story he didn't know to free her brother. The monster kept saying that he did know the story. Finally, at the end the girl told a story that her grandmother had told her. She could tell that the monster was lying because it wasn't in the book. The brother was finally free.
Brooklynn's favorite part was when little creature named Cipher bumped his head on the chest. Trent's favorite part was when the princess screamed really loud. Alex's favorite part was when the baby monster stole his mom's voice, and his mom got it back. We all loved seeing the puppet show. What do you think? 1) What puppet show have you seen? 2) If you saw the same puppet show, what was your favorite part? 3) Have you ever had a puppet show? What was it? We are learning about ways to describe characters. When readers describe characters they can tell about:
Do you like Halloween? If you like Halloween you will love our costumes.
Today is Halloween. We had a normal day in the morning. Some kids went home for lunch and changed into their costumes at home. Some kids stayed at school for lunch. If you did stay at school, then you could sit wherever you wanted for lunch. The fourth and third graders ate at the same time. You also got 10 more minutes of recess. In our class we had four witches, one cat, one zombie prom queen and Elsa. We also had a Bengal's player, a lumber jack, Indiana Jones, a Navy Seal, Ironman, four video game characters, ninjas and BumbleBee. The teachers at Vermont dressed up as a SWAT Team. SWAT stands for Seriously Wicked Awesome Team. Jess and Myles think that SWAT should stand for Someone Wants a Taco! We will have a parade and a party! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! What do you think? 1) Who are you for Halloween? 2) What is your favorite Halloween costume? 3) What is your favorite kind of candy? We have been learning about air and weather. We learned that air is all around us. We made parachutes out of tissues, paper clips, string and stickers. The air got trapped inside the tissue, so it showed that air has resistance. Then Mrs. Lance had a huge container of water, and she put a cup with a piece of paper inside the container. Then she put it under water. The paper stayed dried. We learned that air can hold back water. We trapped the air. We explored with our toys and told everyone what it had to do with air.
