What do you think?
1) Have you ever counted anything that had that many?
2) About how many pieces of pasta do you think were in just one box?
3) Do you count things in your job or during school?
On Wednesday we counted pasta. Each table counted a box of pasta. We had four tables counting pasta. We put the pasta in groups of tens in cups. Then we put 10 cupfuls into bowls to make one hundred. When the tables were done counting we put all of the pasta together. Once we got 10 hundreds we put them in a giant bowl and that was 1,000. Our total number was 1,528. That's a lot of pasta!! What do you think? 1) Have you ever counted anything that had that many? 2) About how many pieces of pasta do you think were in just one box? 3) Do you count things in your job or during school?

Today it was Walk to School Day at Vermont School. Everyone that could, walked to school. We walked on the Cowboy Trail. When we got to school and saw Mr. Red. We walked the Cowboy Trail 9 or 10 times. We were excited when we saw Mr. Red. Rosey Red was at Hilltop with those students. Our friends that usually ride the bus got to walk from Skyline to Vermont. It was a chilly morning when we were walking, but we warmed up our bodies when we walked.
What do you think? 1) Have you ever had a Walk to School Day? 2) How do you get to school usually? 3) Have you ever seen the mascots for the Cincinnati Reds? Today in art we learned about Paul Klee (pronounced like Clay.) He was born in 1879. He started out as a musician, playing the violin. Then he became an art teacher. He was inspired with his music and started making art with his music. One of his famous pictures is of a cat, and the cat had a bird inside his head to show that he was making a memory of the bird. Then a book was made called The Cat and the Bird. We are making shapes into a castle because Paul Klee made a painting like that called The Castle in the Sun. We are using big, medium and little shapes. Next week we are drawing over them with a special kind of colored pencils. |
