We brought buttons and trays down to the kindergarten, so we could see how many buttons they could hold. If we had a brother or sister in kindergarten we got to help them. We helped them count the buttons by tens with leftovers. We helped them write the number of buttons. When we had all of our data we looked to see if our prediction was correct, and it was. We learned about analyzing data and had fun doing it.
For the week in math, we took buttons out of a bag and put them on a tray. We estimated, and then counted the buttons using groups of tens and leftovers. Leftovers are the ones that don't fit in a group of ten. We made a pictograph with data about how many buttons we could hold in our hands. We used a data chart after the pictograph. We filled out our graph, and saw how many people were in each interval. Then we wondered how fourth grade data and kindergarten data would look, so we asked the fourth grade teacher to collect data about how many buttons the fourth graders could hold in a handful. We predicted that fourth graders would be able to hold more buttons than us, and the kindergartners would hold less.

Today is Friday and the special we had was art. In art we started to weave. When we were weaving we went over, under, over, under and over again. This was not our first time weaving. It's actually our second time weaving. After we were done we had to glue the paper strips to our weaving.
What do you think? 1) Have you ever woven before? If yes, what have you woven? 2) What kind of material could you use to weave? We had a huge test that took two days to take this week. We had to move our desks in rows. Each day it took over an hour to take the test. We had to do algebra on part of the test. The end of the test was super hard. The beginning was really easy. Some parts were only one page. We had to fill in little circles for the answers. We had a little bit of drawing time while we waited for Mrs. Lance to say, "Stop." We had an extra recess after the test each day. A lot of people in our class got excited about the extra recess. Whenever you have a test you'll probably have something special at the end of it. We are glad the test is over now.

We read lots of books and brought comfy stuff from home. We read for an hour and 30 minutes. We got popcorn, juice and pretzels for a snack. We had to read 7 times in August on our reading calendar. If everyone turned in his or her reading calendar we got Read the Morning Away. It was the best day of the week.
