About Mrs. Lance
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Jane Lance, and I am thrilled to be teaching second grade! I look forward to a fun filled year of learning.
My Education
I earned a bachelor’s degree from Miami University in special education and then received my master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati. After spending time as a special educator in the regular education class, I attended the University of Cincinnati to become certified in regular education. I finished off my license by going to Xavier to get a license to teach kindergarten. Which of these colleges is my team you may ask? My heart is always at Miami, but I have to cheer for those Bearcats.
My Experience
It’s hard to believe, but I have taught 28 years! I started my teaching career on the west side of Cincinnati teaching students with special needs. I then came to Wyoming to be a special educator for one year. The following year I became a second grade teacher at Vermont. In the midst of teaching second grade for nine years, I became a mother of two. When my youngest was in pre-school, I took off a year to stay home with my children. Following my parental leave, I returned to Wyoming Middle School as the intervention specialist for sixth grade. I am now happy to be at Wyoming Primary Schools as a second grade teacher.
My Family
Not only am I a teacher, but I am a wife and mother of two teen-aged daughters. I have a 16 year old daughter who is a junior and a 18 year old daughter who is a freshman at Miami. I spend a lot of time on the soccer field cheering on my daughter playing. Some of my greatest revelations as a teacher occurred as I sat as a parent at a parent-teacher conference or an open house.
I have been married to a wonderful man for the past 20 years. He is an avid fisherman and a terrific father and husband.
My Hopes and Dreams as a Teacher
It is my hope that I can be a teacher that allows each child to grow and bloom as an individual learner and person. I hope to get to know each child and celebrate his/her own strengths while continuing to develop skills that are needed. It is my hope to form a community of learners in which we all respect ourselves, each other and the environment. It is my hope to make learning interesting and enjoyable in order to engage all students in the learning process. It is my hope and dream that after each child has experienced second grade s/he has made gains academically, socially and emotionally while developing a love for learning.
